Rise of Planet of the Apes.

I have been really busy lately with festivals, work and catching up with friends so I haven't had time yet to write about Planet of the Apes, which I actually went to see with my mum about two weeks ago, she cried all the way through.

So, I have to really think about what I'm going to say about this film because I loved it so much I will end up talking gibberish. I thought James Franco and John Lithgow were amazing. The Apes themselves are much more realistic than in the television series, I was in awe of them. The emotion you can gain just from one look was incredible, just like the humans in the film, you could see the feeling in their eyes. Even though the film was visually beautiful the narrative was simple and predictable yet capturing. I could kind of guess what was about to happen after every scene but that didn't matter one bit, I was still on the edge of my seat all of the way through. Each scene was so gripping, I couldn't look away from the screen in fear of missing something. It's very rare a film has this affect on me, or anyone for that matter especially my mum because she falls asleep during every film she watches but not this.  

I will be queuing up for it's DVD release.  

Busy week.

Yesterday I recieved my A-Level results, I past with flying colours which to be honest was a huge shock! After every exam, I was convinced I had failed, so I guess this gives me a little confidence boost.

I checked ucas at 7:30am and saw that I was accepted in to Liverpool John Moores Uni to study Film Studies so I was running around the house screaming, waking up all of our neighbours. 

I feel like a a weight has been lifted now and I can relax, atleast until enrolement anyway.

After last nights celebations I think I'll need a day or two lazing, watching films so I should have more than enough to post about and hopefully some more 'Must see's' for you to go and buy.

The celebrations are continuing over the weekend, I hope you all have good results to celebrate too! 

The Departed

The Departed is definately in my top 10 favourite films of all time.

Leonardo Di'caprio, Jack Nicholson, Matt Damon, Mark Wahlbery, Ray Winstone I could go on and on.

I first saw this film during my second lesson of film studies, I was in awe of it. People think I overate The Departed, but there's just something about it, it's amazing. I think it's like the modern day 'what would really happen' Godfather, I can hear you gasp in horror already. However, just imagine if the Corleone family tried to get away with half of the stuff today, okay they were very clued up but still, an undercover cop would be all over them.

I'd just like to point out that in no way am I comparing Jack Nicholson to Marlon Brando, completely different kettle of fish all together.

So after watching The Departed hundreds of times and still discover new things about each scene, I think I've found my genre now. Thriller, this film defines 'Thriller' nervous narrative, gritty script and shocking experiences.

If you haven't seen this film, Go Out and Buy it NOW.

A must see!

Titanic

Titanic is my mums favourite film of all time, so whenever it's on the t.v or we have a 'mother/daughter' night (harldy ever) we have to sit in silence with our tissues at the ready until the last letter of the end credits.

For me, Titanic ticks all the boxes of a 'movie'. Even though the historical aspect is beyond our experiences, the emotions are something we can all relate to. This is what a great narrative is, it hits all of the emotions, hard. This is keeping us engaged with the rebel love story.

I guess Titanic is one of the softer Cameron films even with the whole ship splitting in half, it can't compete with a robotic man or the discovery of Pandora. But if you're in need of good ol' cry, looking for some excitement and anticipation. Or want to re-live your teens drooling over Leo (like me) then I would stongly recormend Titanic!!

Rise of the Planet of the Apes

Since I heard this was in Pre-Production and Rupert Wyatt was directing I've been not-so-patiently waiting for it's release. Tim Burton's edition of Planet in 2001 was epic and definately critically aclaimed, so with today's technology and the amazing Andy Serkis playing Ape Ceaser I cannot imagine what the Wyatt edition will bring.

Bridesmaids

I was so excited to see this film, the hype was incredible. I'd heard that Melissa McCarthy was in it who I love from Gossip Girl and was rumoured to play an 'Alan' (Hangover) type character. I have to admit Melissa's character of Megan was the only good thing about this film, so much for 'comedy of the year'. Even though the reviews have been quite good and reviews I've heard from friends were actually promising, I believe Bidemaids was a huge let down. I suppose Megan was alot like Alan with the inorpproriate language and turning a room of happy people in a awkward bowl of fish so this was a silver lining, however the rest of the characters are of the same ol'  kind of all american women. The women in the film either have it all; attractive, rich, married. Or have nothing going for them at all, but some how end up with the loved up romance at the end of the film. So the end of the film was exactly that, a loved up romance. A boring end to a predictable, kind of comical comedy.

If I had the choice I wouldn't have paid to see this.

I'd say watch on a channel4 movie night for a few light laughs.

The Hangover Part II

I finally went to see the long awaited Hangover Part II! I had high expectations as the last one was unlike any comedy I'd seen before. Nomally I am not into the whole 'slapstick' comedy and dramatics of this kind of movie but there is something different about the Hangover.

Before I continue I must say I have a soft spot for Bradley Cooper,  but he reminds me of Brad Pitt because I have only see him play a certain character, I am eager to see something different from him. I did think this 'something diferent' would be Limitless but saddly it wasn't. I do love the type of character he plays but would really like to see something different.

I was worried that the Hangover 2 would not be as funny as the first as everything had been done. But I was so wrong. I haven't laugh that much at a film in a while, probably since the first Hangover.

Alan (Zach Galifianais) and Mr Chow (Ken Jeong) are a great pairing! The weirdness of their friendship is what makes the few scenes with them in together possibly the funniest of the film.

Any film that works great with a drug dealing monkey, ladyboy's and a second appearance from Mike Tyson gets a ten out of ten in my eyes. 

A must see!

AKASHHHHH

Bollywood day has now turned into four crazy people attempting to learn Indian dance routines. I guess this is my new form of revising film. We have now resorted to making pizza and garlic bread until we nom out on Indian take away this evening. 

Christian Bale lashing out on Jared leto is next on the list for the Emotional response section of the exam. 

So, it's 25 degrees outside and we're squashed in a living room supposedly taking notes on 'Dil to pagal hai' how fun, work and holiday clothes shopping tomorrow to finish off my week of revising.

Se7en

Today I bought Se7en on DVD (finally, after loosing my old copy) David Fincher is the topic of my first film exam which I'm extremely happy about because Fincher is one of my favourite directors, there is so much to write on him and most of it will come so easy after being a fan for so long. Se7en is my second chosen focus film after Fight Club so I guess you can see the theme of Fincher films I'm going with. So after HMV telling me they didn't have it in stock I began to panic as there isn't any other DVD stores in my city centre. However, my boyfriend mentioned the CEX exchange store, so that came to my rescue, that place is so cheap!

So later on i'll have a nice 'David Fincher' themed night with Fight Club, Se7en, The Game and Social Network. It sounds so cheesy but I'm kinda excited.

Friday I have more film revision to do, a group of us are getting together for a Bollywood day, this is the topic for my second exam and probably the hardest. But we're going all out, ordering Indian food and everything so should be fun!

So...

So, I'm a student here in Liverpool studing Film, Theology and Media until I hopefully move to university to study Film full time. I will probably talk about anything and everything, mainly films I hope. I'm not going to say I'm reviewing films because I don't exactly have the experience or right to call myself a film critic. I'll just give my opinions and 'rants' just like everyone else does and try my best not to bore you to sleep.

Most of my days are full of new experiences, new films and new music. 

Let's hope my day stories and images are as interesting as the films, music and fashion I'll be talking about.
